    Primary Accountabilities: The primary function of the Vice President, Human Resources is to support the mission, vision and values of Capper Foundation. The Vice President, Human Resources impacts organizational personnel practices, policies, recruitment and retention of staff and volunteers, as measured by the accomplishment of strategic and operational objectives.

    Human Resources

    -Serves as a member of the Senior Management Team in developing strategic and operational plans and monitoring all programs relative to plans and goals. Participates in Senior Management discussions, provides information and input to President & CEO on organizational issues and supports the organization and all of its activities.
    -Provides managerial assistance to the President & CEO related to personnel matters.
    -Manages human resources activities including recruitment, selection, orientation, terminations, compensation, benefits, 401(k) retirement plan, policies and procedures and employee relations.
    -Creates and implements strategies and goals for employee recruitment, retention, benefits and education, including preparation and development of budget, timelines, promotion and coordination in a proactive manner.
    -Annually reviews and makes recommendations to senior management for improvement of policies, procedures and practices on personnel matters.
    -Maintains knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation and ensures organization’s compliance.
    -Manages organization compliance with federal, state and local legislation pertaining to personnel policies, personnel records, and regulatory filings.
    -Oversees benefits program, manages open enrollment, communicates with employees, and provides employee education to enhance participation and engagement.
    -Oversees and maintains organizational job descriptions and organization charts.
    -Monitors unemployment claims and attends appeal hearings.
    -Conducts orientation programs for new employees. Provide supervisory support and training for department managers.
    -Monitors and manages workers compensation claims and coordinates between employees, doctors, and the insurance carriers.
    -Responds to and coordinates employee grievances that are brought to management’s attention under current policies and procedures. Conducts prompt investigations into grievances and provides recommendations to the management team.
    -Reviews disciplinary procedures for accuracy and addresses any employee concerns.
    -Consults with legal counsel as appropriate, and/or as directed on personnel matters.
    -Tracks and reports turnover information.
    -Represent organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations.
    -Oversees staff recognition programs.

    Volunteers

    -Oversees volunteer services to include recruiting, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating volunteer performance. Provides for training and supervision of volunteers.
    -Works with leadership to identify volunteer opportunities.
    -Oversees volunteer background clearance validation, retention and recognition.
    -Oversees and coordinates volunteer acknowledgments throughout year and during April’s National Volunteer Week and Month.
    -Responsible for updating volunteer records with volunteer data and time.

    Qualifications:

    -Bachelor’s degree in related field such as human resources, or business administration and three years related experience. Additional experience may be substituted for the degree.
    -Knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn agency specific software.
    -Demonstrates poise, tact and diplomacy with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and situations.
    -Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff, clients and visitors.
    -Works collaboratively with Capper Foundation staff to build and maintain a strong team environment to accomplish the tasks necessary to serve and support the goals of Capper Foundation.
    -Valid Kansas Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
    -Read, write and speak fluent English.
    -Must be able to pass background checks per agency procedures.

    Physical Demands:

    -While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
    -Frequent bending, standing or sitting.
    -Ability to read computer screens for an extended period.
    -Ability to lift up to thirty (30) pounds.

    Work Environment:

    -This position may occasionally have direct contact with individuals who are severely physically and/or developmentally disabled and who may exhibit unpredictable behavior and uncontrollable outbursts.
