Payroll/Benefits Specialist - Kansas Department of Revenue
This position is the Payroll/Benefits Specialist for Kansas Department of Revenue (KDOR) employees in the Division of Vehicles and Property Valuation Division. Primary responsibility is to ensure accurate and efficient processing of payroll records for KDOR employees utilizing the Statewide Human Resource and Payroll System (SHARP). Responds to questions from employees, supervisors and managers regarding policies, benefits, salaries, and time and leave. Conducts initial new hire orientation for new employees face to face, virtually and/or by phone, including personnel and payroll policies and benefits and prepares packets. Communicates via phone, virtually, and by email with KDOR employees and supervisor/managers and other Office of Personnel Services (OPS) staff on a regular basis. Functions as the primary contact and provides guidance and interpretation on payroll, benefits, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Shared Leave, Workers Compensation, Kansas Public Retirement System (KPERS), Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and other state and federal laws. Tracks FMLA hours and compiles data from various SHARP and statistical reports.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license to perform the essential functions of this position.
Minimum Qualifications: Four years of experience in general office, clerical or administrative support work. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Preferred Experience: Prior experience with payroll and data entry experience highly preferred. Prefer experience with presentations including new hire orientation. Knowledge of human resource practices and payroll and benefit methods.
Preferred Skills: Word Excel, PowerPoint, SHARP, proofreading, editing, attention to detail, analytical thought process skills and ability to multi-task.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: KBI and FBI fingerprint required due to access to Federal Tax Information files in KDOR systems.
