About the speakers: Laurel Klein Searles serves as the Director of Unemployment Insurance for the Kansas Department of Labor. Prior to assuming that role, she worked as Chief of Appeals and Appeals Referee in the Office of Appeals at KDOL. Laurel also has experience as an attorney working for both the Social Security Administration and the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence. Laurel earned her Juris Doctorate from Washburn University School of Law and her Bachelors of Science from Kansas State University.
Nicholas Beech serves as the Unemployment Insurance Fraud Manager for the Kansas Department of Labor. Nicholas is a Wichita native and served as a Patrol Officer, Detective and Sergeant for the Wichita State University Police Department. Nick has also worked for the Kansas Attorney General's Office as a Special Agent. He holds a Bachelors of Science from Wichita State University and a Masters Degree from Fort Hays State University. He joined KDOL in November 2019.
