Board Member Spotlight - Kaisha Wells- Membership Director

    1. Tell us about your experience with SHRM Topeka.

    I have had a great experience with SHRM Topeka. I learn so much from our chapter meetings and our training, and I have made lifelong connections with both board members and fellow chapter members.

     2. How long have you been working in HR?

    I have been in HR for three and a half years.

     3. What resources do you use to stay up-to-date on HR news and trends?

    I use a variety of resources to stay current, including SHRM Topeka and SHRM National, as well as online HR platforms and blogs. I also regularly learn from and connect with other HR professionals in the Topeka area.

    4. What professional accomplishment are you the most proud of?

    I am most proud of earning my MBA with an emphasis in Human Resources in December 2022. Shortly after, I joined SHRM Topeka’s study group and successfully passed the SHRM-CP exam on my first attempt in July.

    5. What advice do you have for someone new to the HR field?

    Get to know other HR professionals in your area. Many HR professionals are eager to support those who are new to the field and have a wealth of knowledge and experience to share.

    6. Why should local HR professionals get involved in SHRM Topeka?

    SHRM Topeka provides valuable opportunities to connect with local HR professionals. The speakers and training offered are highly beneficial, and the smaller setting encourages meaningful conversations and stronger professional connections.

    7. What do you like to do in your free time?

    In my free time I like to hang out with my family, read and go to the gym! I am also on a slow pitch softball team.

     8. What's one thing you love about Topeka?

    I love the history Topeka offers!
